The General Assembly
Sets the direction, adopts the major decisions and elects the Board of Directors.

The Association Professionnelle pour l’Exploitation de la Mangue (ASPELEM) is a civic, member-based organization that promotes Haitian mango and supports everyone working in the sector towards better production, processing and marketing.
ASPELEM holds one firm conviction: Haitian mango is a genuine source of wealth, jobs, income and development for the country.
Close to 150 mango varieties have been recorded across Haiti’s agro-ecological zones. Annual production is estimated at between 200,000 and 400,000 metric tons. The Francique variety ranks 5th worldwide among the 10 commercial varieties most in demand on international markets.
Most of the country’s mango is grown on small farms in agro-ecological areas below 800 m in altitude. Mango trees account for 12.3% of all trees recorded nationwide. The five mango-producing regions, all varieties combined, are, in order of importance: the North-East, the Artibonite, the North, the North-West and the South.
Mango is eaten locally and exported mainly as fresh fruit. The United States is the leading export market for Haitian mango, in the Francique variety.

The Association Professionnelle pour l’Exploitation de la Mangue (ASPELEM) is a non-profit, non-political civic organization recognized by the Haitian authorities. It was founded in April 2025 by a group of professionals from a range of backgrounds: academics, growers, suppliers, exporters and civil servants.
The association’s purpose is to sustainably promote the production, processing and marketing of mango, in both quantity and quality.
ASPELEM’s core mission is to:
ASPELEM works in a participatory and transparent way through four complementary bodies:

Contribute their expertise on a voluntary basis, review files and support the design and monitoring of the association’s work.
The association guarantees responsible management of its resources, with regular reporting and independent audits.
ASPELEM has three categories of member.

A Haitian mango sector that is competitive, innovative, sustainable and a driver of shared prosperity.
ASPELEM’s work grows out of a firm commitment by its founding members: to bring the sector together, build knowledge, add value to what is produced, develop markets and protect the environment.
Build a strong institutional alliance by deepening cooperation with public and private stakeholders, so as to promote well-fitted policies and national advocacy for the mango sector.
Strengthen the partnership with universities by developing applied research and adapting academic training to realities on the ground, with a view to better skills and more innovation.
Professionalize the sector and strengthen the phytosanitary system, by improving farming practices, training growers and building an effective inspection system — not least against the fruit fly.

Joining ASPELEM means joining a network of professionals that opens the door to partnership, builds knowledge, creates wealth and protects the environment.Contact us→
